About the Lake
Residents and old-timers call it "Lake Julia." The Wisconsin DNR and most maps call it "Julia Lake." By either name, it's a gem — a 404-acre lake spanning Oneida and Forest Counties, stretching 2.5 miles from west to east, with a healthy maximum depth of 45 feet and 6.4 miles of shoreline shared among 49 properties.
The earliest cabin, "Piney Woods" at the boat landing, was built in 1910, followed in 1912 by the "Point House." In the early days, building materials were ferried across the frozen lake during winter from the Chicago & Northwestern railroad line running between Virgin and Julia Lakes — a reminder of just how remote and rugged this place once was.
The boat landing is open to the public through a formal easement, even though it sits on private property. We're grateful to the property owner for maintaining this access for the broader community.
Most of this site is publicly accessible. Certain directory listings and documents are restricted to registered lake residents. Learn about resident access →
The Association
The Lake Julia Association (LJA) has been bringing together lake property owners and regular visitors since 2004. As a Wisconsin Non-Stock Corporation, we're governed by a twelve-person Board of Directors elected by the community, with an Annual Meeting held each year around the Fourth of July. In 2022, we became a fully accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The Board typically meets once a month via Zoom during the busy season — Memorial Day through Labor Day — to stay connected and keep things running smoothly for the lake community.
Our ongoing mission is keeping Lake Julia healthy and beautiful for everyone who loves it — including through the Clean Boats, Clean Waters program, which helps protect the lake from aquatic invasive species.
